is summer really almost over?

I am dying that summer is nearing its end! Time truly does go too fast.

We have spent this summer just relaxing and spending time with our family and friends. We have really enjoyed watching Stella learn and grow each day. She loves being outside so we have spent a good amount of time on walks, playing in the grass at the park, and swimming at the pool.

Ty has had the great opportunity to work for a law firm in Provo as an intern and has enjoyed his time there. They have asked him to stay on during the fall so he will continue working there, going to school, and working for Prestige Solutions from home, as well as watching Stella a couple days a week (which he wants to do - she is going to ware him out :)). He is such a hard worker and I am so impressed by all that he is able to do. He will begin his third year of law school in a couple of weeks and we are so excited that the end is in sight. It has been such a fun experience and he has learned so much in his time at the U - we can't wait to see what our future has in store once he is done with school.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to take Fridays off for the entire summer (I am so sad that it is ending in a couple of weeks) so I can spend time with Stella. She and I have gone on lots of adventures and had so much fun hanging out together on those days. I love my job but being a mom is so much better! I am truly envious of moms that are able to stay home with their kids, they are so lucky!

As it was Stella's first summer, she experienced a lot of 'firsts': her first time to Red Fish Lake on our annual trip with my extended Falk Family about a month ago and she loved it. The lake was freezing but she still wanted to play in it. All of her cousins love her and can't get enough of her. She is always the belle of the ball!, her first time to the Hyrum 4th of July parade, the Famous Preston Night Rodeo parade, Fireworks, the Farmers Market, camping, BBQs, etc. etc. It was so much fun!

Football season is upon us and, as usual, Ty has his entire fall weekend schedule booked out for sporting events. We can't wait to take Stella to her first football game and get her all decked out in her Denver Broncos gear!

Love,

happy summer 2013

About a month ago I started singing 'Here Comes the Sun' to my sweet Stella girl every day. I love the sun and love summer and by the time that winter is {finally} coming to a close in Salt Lake City, I get so excited for summertime to begin & summer has finally arrived. It is 96 degrees outside right now and it is 6:37pm. All winter long I dream about summer and when it is finally here, I can't believe how hot it gets! Thank goodness for air conditioning {I would die without it}.

Our world has been so exciting and full of love and happiness since Stella joined our family. She turned 6 months old a couple of days ago and Ty and I continue finding ourselves just staring at her in awe of how quickly the time has gone and how quickly she is growing up.

[Funny Story]: my little {big} cousin, Lucas, graduated from Logan High School a couple of weeks ago and I attended a celebration party for him after the ceremony. It was fun to see many of my family members and celebrate such an exciting time in his life. My uncle, Mike, asked everyone to go around the room and share a piece of advice with Luke and his friend for the upcoming chapter in their lives. I, being an emotional new mother and being so proud of my little buddy {Luke has been one of my favorite people in the world since he was born}, was praying that I wouldn't get called on to share advice. Well, I (and the rest of the group due to what happened next) wasn't so lucky.

I wanted to remind the two 18 year olds to cherish every single moment. I truly believe that it is so important to take a step back as often as we can to take a deep breath and be aware of how blessed we are. When I was 18, my parents always told me to cherish every moment and my response was always, 'I know...yayaya.' but at the end of the day, I never took the time to take a step back. It wasn't until the last few months of watching my baby girl grow up that I truly realized how important every second is and how quickly time goes. Life seems to pass by much too quickly unless we remember to be aware of it and be grateful for what we have. In my attempt to share this advice with Luke and his friend, I broke down (as my thoughts went straight to what I explained above) and I couldn't hold it together. It was horribly embarrassing and I am just hoping that everyone got the message and doesn't think I am the crazy crier. :)

In other news, Ty started an internship in Provo last month which he is enjoying and I am still working for PacifiCorp. Our nanny, Nikki, watches Stella during the day and Stella LOVES her. We are so grateful to have someone with Stella that we trust and that loves Stella {almost} as much as we do.

We sold the Prius last month {sad day} and got a new car which was sadly rear-ended on the freeway on Ty's commute home a couple of days ago. We are just glad that Ty is ok, Stella wasn't in the car, and cars can be fixed.

We are looking forward to this summer and I will attempt to keep this blog updated more regularly.

January - March 2013

It is truly amazing how fast time goes, especially when you have a baby. Throughout my life, my parents have always told me to cherish every minute because time goes so quickly and I never truly understood that until now.

Over the past 3 months we have spent our time adjusting to being a family of 3 and spending time together as a little family. It is the best.

I went back to work 6 weeks after Stella was born and since then Tyler has been watching Stella every morning before school and I come home early a couple days a week and we have a fabulous nanny that comes a couple days a week in the afternoons to play with Stella. We are so fortunate to be able to have the set up that we do.

Being parents is so surreal. We imagined so many different things before she arrived and now that she is in our lives, the reality is so much better and more amazing than we ever imagined. We are so blessed and are so grateful for the people in our lives that have shaped our lives into what they are.

Here are a few pictures from the past couple of months. A couple weeks ago we took a trip to St. George and Stella got to experience true sunshine, fresh air, and grass for the first time. It was so much fun!

the perfect ending to an amazing year

As the title of this post says, we had the perfect ending to an amazing year.

Throughout the day of December 5, 2012, I was having contractions. I was at work so I tried to ignore them, until about 3pm when I (and my good friend at work) got worried that if I didn't drive home soon, I wouldn't be able to drive home at all.

That morning, I woke up and knew the baby was coming. Tyler had a final that lasted from 9am-5pm that day and he decided the night before to tell me that the baby was going to come that day. Since he always jinxes us, I woke up on the 5th and was convinced she would be arriving that day, just because it would be our luck to have Tyler in a final with no phone and no way to leave until he was done. Luckily, my wonderful mom was on 'red alert' and was ready to drive to SLC from Logan as soon as I gave her the call.

I left work around 3:30pm and made sure my hosptial bag and the baby's bag, which I prepared about a month in advance, were ready to go. Tyler got home shortly after I did and we decided to go get dinner-I am always in the mood to eat out and I figured this would be my last meal pre-baby. We were also going to run some errands and I actually had gotten Jazz tickets to surprise Tyler with but we ended up giving them away to one of his friends, since we would most likely not be able to make it. We ate dinner at Noodles and Co. and then came back home. Tyler and I played the Wii for a while (in an attempt to keep the contractions going-which they did). Tyler wouldn't let me sit down in between tennis matches. :) Later on, I was so uncomfortable that I got in the bath tub. I called my mom and told her that we were probably going to go to the hospital when I got out of the tub but I didn't want her to leave Logan yet because what if they just send me home?!

Around 7:45pm we left home and headed for the hospital-not before meeting our kind neighbors at the door that were bringing us Christmas goodies (I ate most of the treats in the car). We got to the hospital and checked in. I was only dilated to a 3 (which I had been at for around 2 weeks) but they kept me at the hospital because each time I would have a contraction, baby's heart rate would drop. So we were there and ready to go. I called my mom and she and my dad were already on their way. So cute.

A whole lot of nothing happened for the next few hours. We watched TV and chatted. After many hours of bad contractions, I finally asked for the epidural, which was given to me at 4am on December 6. My nurse anesthesist (sp?) did a great job and the epidural worked swimmingly! I finally went to sleep after that. When I woke up, they notified me that they would break my water around 12pm and would wait for baby to come. My parents and Ty got to go eat yummy food (something I couldn't do) so I was jealous...and hungry most of the day. They broke my water and found out that the baby had gone to the bathroom in my belly so they notified us that the nursery team would be in the room during the birth to make sure that the baby didn't inhale any merconium (Tyler later saw a sign in the nursery that said 'Merconium happens' - he thought that was quite humorous. Around 3:30pm, they checked me and I was dilated to a 9 and they said it was go time!

We had an awesome nurse named Sandy that took very good care of us all. I started pushing around 3:50pm and our sweet Stella Raymond weighing 7 pounds 6 ounces and 19 inches long arrived at 4:49pm. It was, hands down, the most amazing experience of my life. I get emotional just thinking about it because it was such a miracle to experience the 9 months of being pregnant and talking to and falling in love with a little person that we had never met and then suddenly having her there with us. My first thought when I held her was how beautiful she is and how lucky I am to be her mom. As soon as she came out, the nursery crew checked her and she had not swallowed any merconium - phew. She was perfectly healthy and has a great set of lungs. Tyler got to hold her first. That moment was caught on film and was so sweet and special.

She already has us wrapped around her finger and is honestly the best part of our lives. At her 2 week doctor appointment, she had gained 6oz. and grown 2 inches (not sure how accurate her original length was since I'm not sure she really grew 2 inches in 2 weeks but you never know).

We were able to spend the holidays in St. George with Tyler's family and after Christmas we spent time with my family as well.

We hope you all had a wonderful 2012 and wish you an even better 2013.

end of summer

Ok, I seriously need to be better about blogging! I have decided that blogging in the summer is hard because the days are long, warm (actually pretty HOT here in SLC) and after work I would rather be outside than blog inside.

That said, our summer was great. Ty spent his time doing an internship and working and I spent my time working. We were able to do lots of fun things including boating, Red Fish Lake with my family, fishing, hiking, tennis, lots of BBQs, swimming, golfing...the list goes on and on.

We recently moved from downtown SLC (which we loved) to a suburb of the city which is much more family friendly and an environment that we feel will be better for our baby girl to be in. We love it so far! It is a little bit bigger than our last apartment, brand new, and has an amazing pool area. It also has trax right next to it so Ty rides trax to school each day, which is nice.

I can't remember if I have mentioned that we are having a baby girl, but we are! We are so excited-she is already so loved and we can't wait until her arrival. My pregnancy has been really great and I am looking forward to getting bigger and bigger. :)

Summer ending is bitter-sweet for me. I love summertime. However, this year has been super hot and when you mix heat with pregnancy, it makes for some sweaty, swollen days. The great part about summer ending means that fall is now upon us and fall is my favorite season. Football games, nice cool nights, leaves changing colors, & this year it means that we just have to finish this season and then we will be welcoming the newest member of our family.

We live in a truly beautiful place. My friend, who is not originally from Utah, mentioned to me that she had a 'moment' a few weeks back when she was on a bike ride and was stunned by the beauty of where we live and how happy she is to be living here. I usually take moments like that for granted because I grew up in this beautiful state but every now and again I find myself enjoying a moment of silence and admiring the amazing place that is Utah.

Below are some random pictures from over the summer.

april, may, and a little bit of june

Apparently we have had a busy couple of months...I'm not sure what we have been doing but I know it hasn't consisted of blogging. I will be better. I can't remember the time chronologically so I will try to cover what we have done in whatever order I can remember it.

We went to St. George which consisted of both of our families, golf, pool/hot tub, relaxing, eating, a tour of the Brigham Young Home given by Ty's missionary mother, Melanie, and lots of memories.

Ty played in a golf tournament with some of his friends at Sunbrook

Ty's nephew was our personal concessions man for the Celtics game

We had to say goodbye to this sweet friend after he was hit by a car and had to have his leg amputated. It is a good thing we know that All Dogs Go to Heaven :)

We spent a weekend with Ty's brothers and their families. We went to a Utah Blaze game, City Creek, and ate yummy food.

Since the weather has been so nice we have tried to be outside more...walking, hiking, watching my nephew and Ty's neice play soccer, etc. A couple weeks ago we went with our friends and hiked to Ensign Peak-if you haven't done it, you should. It is a beautiful view of the Salt Lake Valley.

The opening day of the Salt Lake Farmer's Market was last week and I couldn't pass it up-Ty even enjoyed himself :)

We continue working every day and enjoying every second of our weekends. Tyler began his internship at the Matheson Court House a few weeks ago and seems to be enjoying it. I think he really enjoys not having to study all day every day and I know that I enjoy getting to spend time with him when I get home at night. Speaking of school, Tyler finished his first year of Law School! It seemed to go pretty quickly (knock-on-wood) and he did very well. He is working for the summer and will begin year 2 in August. I plan on getting in as much fun as we can this summer!

That said, there is one last piece of info that we have to share. We will be welcoming a Little Love Bug Raymond on December 10th and we are very excited. We feel so blessed to become parents and have been enjoying this time in life preparing to welcome a baby into our home. We love him/her already.

We hope life is treating all of our friends and family well and we hope you know how much we love and appreciate having you in our lives.
